2016 Mundheim Conversation Series Welcomes National Law, Business Leaders to Campus
Join the Business Law program and Business Law Society for the popular annual series, Conversations with Bob Mundheim. The 2016 series kicks off March 7.
The series features Professor of Corporate Law and Finance Bob Mundheim moderating informal conversations with national leaders in business and law, relating their experiences in and perspectives about corporate governance, markets, ethics, and career development.
The series is free and open to the public and will be of particular interest to law and business students.
All sessions take place noon-1:15 p.m. at the College of Law, Room 237 (Faculty Lounge). Lunch is provided, and seating is limited. Email Corrina Eklund to RSVP for each session.

Michele Coleman Mayes, Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary for the New York Public Library
Mayes previously served as executive vice president and general counsel for Allstate Insurance Company. She served as a senior vice president and general counsel of Pitney Bowes Inc. (2003–07) and in several legal capacities at Colgate-Palmolive (1992–2003). In 1982 Ms. Mayes entered the corporate sector as managing attorney of Burroughs Corporation, and then was staff vice president and associate general counsel for Unisys Corporation worldwide litigation. From 1976 through 1982, she served in the U.S. Department of Justice as an Assistant U. S. Attorney in Detroit and Brooklyn, eventually assuming the role of Chief of the Civil Division in Detroit. She currently chairs the ABA’s Commission on Women in the Profession.

Joel Friedlander, Partner at Friedlander & Gorris, P.A.
Friedlander & Gorris is a litigation boutique recognized by Benchmark Litigation as “Delaware Firm of the Year” for 2015. Timothy P. Flynn, Director at JPMorgan Chase, Walmart, and Chubb Corporation
Tim Flynn has been the chief executive officer and chairman of KPMG, LLP (2005–10) and chairman of KPMG International (2007–11). He also served as a trustee of the Financial Accounting Standards Board. Presently, he is a director of JPMorgan Chase (since 2012), Walmart Stores, Inc. (since 2012), and Chubb Corporation (since 2013). He is also a trustee of the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Wesley von Schack, Lead Director of Bank of New York Mellon Corporation
Dr. von Schack is lead director of Bank of New York Mellon Corporation, which has been a target of activist investor Nelson Peltz. Dr. von Schack also serves as lead director of Edward Lifesciences Corporation, and he serves on the boards of Teledyne Technologies Inc. and AEGIS Managing Agency, Ltd., which manages Syndicate 1225 at Lloyds of London. In addition, he serves as chairman of AEGIS Insurance Services Inc. Dr. von Schack most recently served for 12 years as chairman, president, and CEO of Energy East Corporation, an energy services company, which he built through a series of mergers and acquisitions. Prior to Energy East, for 11 years he was chairman, president, and CEO of Energy Services Company DQE based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is also a former vice chairman of Carnegie Mellon University.

John J. Cannon III, Partner, Shearman & Sterling
Cannon is a senior member of the Executive Compensation & Employee Benefits Group and co-chair of Shearman & Sterling’s Corporate Governance Advisory Group. In his practice, he focuses on all aspects of compensation and benefits, including ERISA and corporate, securities, bankruptcy, employment, and tax laws. He has extensive experience in executive compensation and corporate governance matters, Dodd-Frank and Sarbanes-Oxley, and the compensation issues raised in the mergers and acquisitions context. Mr. Cannon joined Shearman & Sterling in 1985 and became a partner in 1994.

Eton Park Capital Management, LP, is a global alternatives investment firm. Ms. Engel is responsible for all non-investment aspects of Eton Park’s business. Previously, Ms. Engel worked for Citigroup and its predecessor firms, Salomon Smith Barney, and Salomon Brothers, Inc. She served as general counsel of Salomon Smith Barney and Managing Deputy General Counsel of Citigroup’s Corporate and Investment Bank. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, she was an associate in the litigation department of Sullivan & Cromwell.
