Centers & Research

Academic and research centers consolidate resources under a single umbrella, encouraging collaborative work among scholars and students, sponsoring conferences, lectures and workshops, and increasing the impact and reach for research and scholarship.

University of Arizona Law Centers

  • The William H. Rehnquist Center for the Constitutional Stuctures of Government
    • The William H. Rehnquist Center on the Constitutional Structures of Government honors the legacy of Chief Justice Rehnquist by encouraging public understanding of the structural constitutional themes that were integral to his jurisprudence: the separation of powers, the balance of powers, and judicial independence.

    • The center sponsors a visiting scholars program, a jurist in residence program, an annual lecture, and periodic seminars and conferences. The center also organizes and participates in international judicial exchanges involving U.S. and foreign judges and lawyers, organized under the center's Sandra Day O'Connor International Judicial Exchange Program. Through all of its activities, the center engages in public outreach and education relating to the structural constitutional themes outlined above.
  • The Center for Law & Philosophy (with the University of Arizona Department of Philosophy)

    • A forum for faculty, students, and the community to explore critical ideas and theories.
  • National Law Center for Inter-American Free Trade

    • Located in Tucson, the National Law Center for Inter-American Free Trade maintains a strong affiliation with the University of Arizona. The center works with developing countries and communities to help micro and small businesses thrive through increased access to credit, and acts to encourage investment by creating institutions that protect the rights of all parties. These programs include not only the practical training of professionals, business owners and students in various areas of law but also include the facilitation of programs that bring global perspectives to Arizona.

    • Arizona Law students can become involved in the center's many projects, gaining valuable experience in international trade and business law.

    • The center works in the areas of:
      • Commercial law reform and best business and trade practices
      • Access to credit for businesses of all sizes
      • Promotion of alternative dispute resolution
      • Capacity-building programs that encourage training and education
