IPLP Scholarships

The Indigenous Peoples Law and Policy (IPLP) Program’s commitment to supporting and teaching the next generation of legal advocates goes beyond the classroom. Each year IPLP provides significant scholarship support to qualifying students.

IPLP awards merit-based scholarships on a rolling basis and has limited funding available. In order to receive a scholarship, early applications for the JD, LLM, and SJD degrees are strongly encouraged. There is no separate scholarship application required. Qualified applicants will automatically be considered for IPLP scholarships.

The Williams Achievement Award Scholarship is a half- or full-tuition scholarship awarded to JD, LLM, and SJD students. IPLP also established the Huerta Scholarship in partnership with the Pascua Yaqui Tribe, Galanda Broadman LLC, and the Law College Association to honor Judge Lawrence Huerta.

Judge Huerta was the first Native American to graduate from the James E. Rogers College of Law and be licensed to practice law in Arizona. The Huerta Scholarship carries on Judge Huerta's dedication to education, public service, and promoting tribal sovereignty. The scholarship is awarded to first-year JD students to help offset the costs associated with starting law school.

Prospective students currently living outside of Arizona may also qualify for in-state tuition if you are an enrolled member of one of Arizona’s 22 federally recognized tribes.

This financial assistance, in addition to mentorship from fellow students, alumni, and faculty, provide students with the support they need to succeed in law school.
