University of Arizona Law’s John Lacy Inducted into American Mining Hall of Fame
John C. Lacy ('67), University of Arizona Law professor of practice and director of the global mining law program, was honored by the Mining Foundation of the Southwest as a 2017 recipient of the Medal of Merit, for induction into the American Mining Hall of Fame.
Lacy began teaching mining law at UA in 1976 and has been the director of the global mining law program since 2015. The program offers courses to JD students and a Master of Legal Studies concentration, available both on campus and fully online. A Master of Laws concentration will also be available soon. The program partners with the university’s Lowell Institute for Mineral Resources and offers cross-listing of courses.
Lacy was previously recognized by the UA with the Distinguished Citizen Award in 1984, Arizona Law’s Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2008, and the UA Alumni Association's Alumni Service Award in 2009 and Professional Achievement Award in 2017. Lacy’s teaching efforts were also recognized by the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation in 2015 with the Clyde O. Martz Teaching Award.
He has built a career taking after his father, Willard "Bill" Lacy, a UA mining professor, the first head of the combined department of mining and geological engineering, and also an American Mining Hall of Fame inductee.
