UA College of Law Convocation 2020
Dear Arizona Law Students Who Plan to Graduate This Semester,
By now you should have seen the announcement from President Robbins with the news that all spring 2020 graduation ceremonies have been canceled.
This also means that the College of Law convocation previously scheduled for May 16 will not happen.
There is no getting around how disappointing this is, even when done to keep everyone as safe as possible.
Convocation, and all that comes with it, is an important recognition of all you have done, and what you will do. Celebrating your efforts and sharing the joy with your family and friends makes this a deeply meaningful event for me and all of our community.
While we certainly cannot replace that experience, please know that we have already begun making alternative arrangements. A few things to note:
- With input from you and the university, we are planning ways to celebrate our graduates in May. If you have thoughts or opinions on that, please share your feedback here.
- There will be an opportunity for the community to celebrate the Class of 2020 in person when we are able to do so.
- Mary Steed in my office was serving as the convocation coordinator for the in-person event and will continue to do so as we move online and into the future. You may email her at marywsteed@arizona.edu at any time with questions.
- As new details emerge, we will provide updates via email and the college’s graduation web page.
Over the past few weeks I have been inspired by your perseverance and your compassion and care for each other. This is not how any of us could have imagined this semester finishing, but I am confident that together we will press onward.
Please continue to take care of yourself during this time and keep letting us know what you need from us. We’re here for you.
Marc
