The law firm of Snell & Wilmer and several of its attorneys have made a significant gift to the “A New Day in Court” fundraising initiative in support of University of Arizona Law’s advocacy program.

The donation was comprised of a multi-year pledge where the firm matched contributions by individual attorneys up to a certain level. The sixteen contributing attorneys who pledged $80,000 over a total of five years include: James Condo, Lisa Coulter (’85), Barbara Dawson, Creighton Dixon (‘16), Matt Feeney, Paul Giancola, Courtney Henson (‘13), Nathan Kanute (‘05), Tony King (‘09), Joe Kroeger, Anne Meyer, Jill Perrella (‘08), Warren Platt (‘69), Jody Pokorski, Patricia Lee Refo, and Jeff Willis.

“A New Day in Court” renovation project includes the construction of new state-of-the-art courtrooms, classrooms and lobby spaces. The upgraded spaces are under construction and expected to be completed in fall 2024.

Among these new spaces, the Snell & Wilmer Jury Conference Room will serve as a dual-purpose mock jury deliberation/conference room.

“Snell & Wilmer’s steadfast support has been crucial in advancing 'A New Day in Court.' Their contributions have propelled Arizona Law forward, just as they did with previous key initiatives like Innovation for Justice and renovations such as our Law Commons,” said Dean Marc Miller. “Their dedication to mentoring and hiring our students and graduates has significantly enriched our community. We are grateful for their robust support, and longstanding collaboration.”

“As a practicing attorney in Arizona, I’m proud to support this initiative that will significantly enhance University of Arizona Law’s advocacy program. This project is an investment in the excellence and future success of our legal community,” said Barbara Dawson, Snell & Wilmer Firm Chair.

Founded in 1938, Snell & Wilmer is a full-service business law firm with more than 500 attorneys practicing in 16 locations throughout the United States and in Mexico, including Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona; Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego, California; Denver, Colorado; Washington, D.C.; Boise, Idaho; Las Vegas and Reno, Nevada; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Portland, Oregon; Dallas, Texas; Salt Lake City, Utah; Seattle, Washington; and Los Cabos, Mexico. The firm represents clients ranging from large, publicly traded corporations to small businesses, individuals, and entrepreneurs.

“Leading this initiative has been an honor. This gift is a testament to Snell & Wilmer’s commitment to the legal community and the future of the profession,” said James Condo, Of Counsel at Snell & Wilmer, who took the lead on fundraising from the firm and its members. “These new upgraded spaces will ensure that our future lawyers have access to state-of-the-art resources, preparing them to be effective advocates in the courtroom.”

“It’s incredibly rewarding to contribute to a project that will significantly enhance the student experience at my alma mater and prepare future lawyers,” said Snell & Wilmer Partner Anthony King (’09). “This renovation will provide the tools and environment necessary for students to excel in advocacy.”

“A New Day in Court,” launched in 2017, has raised more than $4.5 million, entirely through donor contributions, for building renovations and plans to raise another $4 million for an endowed chair of advocacy, an endowed professorship and an endowment fund to support student experiential advocacy activities such as travel to trial competitions.

Also, part of the initiative, the college’s advocacy program will be renamed the Thomas Mauet Advocacy Program, in honor of Arizona Law Professor Emeritus and renowned trial expert Thomas Mauet
