Professor of Practice

Charles Wang is Associate Vice President for China & East Asia Affairs at University of Arizona and Professor of Practice at James E. Rogers College of Law. In his capacity as AVP for China & East Asia Affairs and in support of UA’s strategic plan, he works with UA leaders, faculty, and researchers, overseas partner institutions and government entities to identify opportunities, navigate local legal and regulatory landscapes, establish and implement collaborations for strategic engagement in the region. At College of Law, he teaches both US law and Chinese law to both Chinese students and US students in various programs.

He served as a judge and chief judge in China’s court system for 15 years, most recently serving as Chief Judge at the Qingdao Maritime Court. Following his judicial career in China, he served as a Visiting Foreign Judge in the Baltimore County Circuit Court and the U.S. District Court for Maryland. Prior to his career at Arizona Law, Wang was an in-residence Judicial Fellow at the Federal Judicial Center where his research focused on transnational litigation. In addition to his extensive judiciary experience, Wang also advised several leading global private equity funds doing business and investment in China and practiced law in cross-border dispute resolution.

Professor Wang received his JD from University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law; He has an LLM in US law from University of Baltimore School of Law, an LLM in international economic law from Shandong University School of Law, and an LLM in shipping law from Dalian Maritime University.

Professor Wang’s research and teaching interests focus on cross-border litigation, international arbitration, and maritime law.
